How many times are we
asked,
"So, what do you do?"
What better time than the start of a brand new year to clarify our goals and values of what we "do" and are "about." I'm personally looking forward to a wonderfully creative 2008 for my business and clients! How about you? Since I have many new newsletter subscribers this month after having a "Home Office Success Story" write-up about me recently by The Barefoot Executive (Welcome to Karen, fellow home-based entrepreneur from Australia who e-mailed me to say hello!), I thought it was a good time to update you about all of the services Kathryn Bechen Ink currently provides. *The "Ink" in my business name means that first and foremost, I am a writer! And here's what I "do" and am "about." *I work virtually from my home office/writing studio via phone and e-mail so no matter where you live, we can easily work together! In fact, even with my San Diego clients, (where I live) I do most work by phone, e-mail, and FAX, so seldom is there a need to meet in person, making it convenient for both of us. *I am hired to write primarily for home and garden, organizing, decorating, and other creative publications and entrepreneurs, because I have worked as a consultant myself in those fields, and because I personally live a creative, yet organized, lifestyle. I can relate to my clients, and I know their lingo! I also write Christian inspirational pieces. Some things you might want to consider...
*Have you written an article, e-book, book, etc., that's still "collecting dust" on your computer? I provide editing services. If you are stuck or need another eye or some objective input, I am happy to review it for you and make suggestions via e-mail and/or by phone. I can look at everything from grammar and spelling, or if you wish, concept and content. Let's get that manuscript off your computer! If you have a project that I honestly feel is beyond my scope, I can likely refer you to someone who can help you. Or maybe you just have a difficult situation in business and have to write a strong letter to get an issue resolved. Consider it done. *Is your website "putting you on the page" and connecting emotionally with your clients about the services and/or products you provide? Is it getting you new business? If not, your copy is not working. Period. I can write or edit your website copy to showcase you and your services in the best light. *Are your paper marketing materials effective? Not sure? Do you know what makes your clients want to do business with you? If not, I'll interview you by phone and then write copy that tells them! Client projects have included writing and freshening up bio's to make you shine without bragging, brochure text, sales and informational flyers, press releases, and effective business letters, to name a few. *Are you considering starting an e-newsletter or blog for your business? I can give you suggestions for how to use them effectively if you are just starting to consider online marketing. I can also edit your newsletter copy.
*Want to get your business featured in magazines, newspapers, or online? In conjunction with my writing and editing services, I provide phone consultations to give you tips and ideas for how you can get PR. If you get stuck, I coach you by e-mail. My clients are getting PR results based on what I've taught them. *Is your home office a paper prison where you're grueling or a pleasant garden where you're blooming? Because I had my own office organizing business for several years, I now offer virtual phone consultations and coaching for my writing and PR clients who work from home and want to create both an organized and aesthetically comfortable space for themselves. Let's get your office "virtually organized" so you have time to write that great American novel or paint that masterpiece! Here's how it works. What qualifies me to provide all the services I do? Check out my Meet Kathryn page.
I have developed a new presentation called PR Pizzazz! - Learn How to Get PR for Your Small or Solo Business. If you'd like to take this class in a teleseminar format, which means you call into a phone line and I teach a group of you over the phone for one hour, e-mail me at kathrynbechen@yahoo.com so I can put you on my interest list. Teleseminars are a great way to learn. No matter where you live, I can teach you virtually while you sit at home in bed in your PJ's! See my own Media Room.
Although I don't personally know
this professional organizer, I came upon her blog and
loved what she had to say about the "why" of
organizing.
"Organizing and creativity go hand-in-hand. Organizing creates space for creativity and creativity makes organizing more fun!"
Q: How do you handle the
rejection that all writers face?
A: It's true that all writers, even the best, face rejection. I handle it by continuing to write in several areas and in several formats, so that I always have something going and will get paid from some avenue. It's a numbers game. Two magazine articles were on hold for over a year and have come back to life to be published this spring. Bingo. At other times, my e- books sell on my website. Bingo. A story I wrote was just published in a compilation book. Bingo. A book manuscript is being sent out to a traditional publisher for evaluation with the encouragement of an author friend and a publishing contact. Waiting. I also write for creative entrepreneurial clients who always give me positive feedback, so I encounter no rejection there and I love working with them. I just realize and accept that it's just part of the life of a writer to encounter rejection off and on, so I do what I need to do and probably most importantly, I don't give up!
"Dear God, we surrender this past
year and give it up to you on this first day of the new
year. We give you our failures, our regrets, and our
disappointments, for we have no more use for them.
Make us now a new people, forgetting what lies
behind and pressing on toward that which lies ahead
of us. We give you all our hopes and dreams for the
future. Purify them by your Spirit, so that our wills shall
truly reflect your will for us. As we stand at the
threshold of another year, encourage us by our
successes of the past, challenge us by the power of
your word, and guide us by the presence of your Holy
Spirit. Amen."
